Featured Product: Keychains

New this year, we have keychains now! As of this post, we have three varieties, but we plan to develop some more. Mark is in the process of making a variation of one of them but doesn't quite know yet when it will be ready. Even more exciting, two of them are made of leather, which is not a material we have offered much of yet!

Sometimes we develop products to fit the demographic of a show or market and that is how all of these keychains came to be. Our leather cow and horse head keychains were prompted by the Livingston County 4-H Tack and Craft Show. The metal music-inspired keychains got their inspiration from the PCEP Music Boosters Craft Show. Both styles also showcase the variety of our work and skills.

Leather Cow & Horse Head Keychains
We first had to make a template for each of these heads. Mark has a nifty AR drawing app that allows him to "project" images onto another surface, which is how we got the template onto some thick plastic. For this first batch, he and Sarah were working together. Sarah traced the outlines onto the leather and cut them out, while Mark did the punching and sewing. We use small scraps of leather from bigger projects for these keychains so there is some variation in the look and/or color but that is part of what makes them unique and fun!

Metal Music-Inspired Keychains
We had fun brainstorming how we could make something musical for the Music Booster show. Eventually we settled on a treble clef and an eighth note. The trick was finding something that would be identifiable as a music notation but could also be hung on a keyring. Made with thin round rod/metal wire, it's mostly a process of heating and twisting to make these keychains, though the eighth note does need some flattening and a hole drilled in the flag for the ring to thread through.
