Mark's space got an upgrade! It was a LOT of work, and we didn't love moving all the machines up the stairs, but now he has more space, all the shops are in the same building (okay, not the forge), and there is an insulated room for finishing! In the old shop space, there wasn't really room for all of our machines. This meant that some didn't get used at all, and others were challenging to get out and use, while still trying to work on other projects. We were also rather limited to the size of the wood we could use.
This new shop space allows us to have all the machines in their own spot (no more pulling out from under tables and off shelves), as well as an outfeed table on our tablesaw for larger projects. But possibly the best part is the finishing room. In the winter, glue, paint, stain, etc. doesn't dry and set well because it is so cold here in Michigan. Using heaters only works so well. We also have an issue with it being hard to work on projects that might have sawdust flying if we have paint drying in the same room :) The finishing room is insulated so it can be kept at a warmer, more consistent temperature AND it allows us to keep it more dust-free. Nothing is perfect of course. Welcome to the new woodshop!
