More adventures in farmland. We have 2 (and a half :) new animals on our farm! They came at the end of September and have settled in nicely. Except the one Sunday morning when they escaped and were running in the front yard. At least it happened BEFORE church and not after we had left. Anyway, allow us to introduce... ... Sassy & Shadow! They are Dexter cows, so they are meat and dairy cows. We will keep both for milk for several years and Sassy will have another calf in the spring (to be named Chance). If it is a boy, he will be raised for meat.
Dexter cows are also smaller than regular dairy cows and Mark has plans to try and ride Sassy at some point, but she doesn't even like to be milked right now, so we'll see where those plans go. Surprisingly, they don't make much noise. They hardly moo at all, so that's nice. Our dogs and roosters make enough racket, thank you very much :) Do you know where the names Sassy, Shadow, & Chance came from? Here's a hint - they are from a movie ;)
