We got two Great Pyrenees dogs from Tennessee at the beginning of this month, but this was not a sudden thing. Once we found them, we pulled the trigger on getting them quickly, but to get to this point, we have to go back to 2017 and another trip to Tennessee. In 2017, we went down to Tennessee to see the total solar eclipse. While we were down there, we stayed with a family through A Candle In The Window who had a small farm. They had goats and these dogs to protect their goats. Dan knew he wanted animals one day, so he spent a good deal of time talking with our hosts about their dogs. (I believe they were Great Pyrenees/Anatolian mix). Since then, the "dream dog" has been a Great Pyrenees or Anatolian or a mix.
These will be working dogs and we have never been interested in paying tons of money for a dog. But obviously, rescues and rehomes, you have to take what's available. Carrie was looking on all kinds of sites for any kind of dog that would work and not finding good options. One day, Carrie was talking with her friend - who lives in Tennessee - and this friend asked about our dog search. When she said that ideally we wanted a Great Pyrenees, the friend said, "have you looked down here? They're everywhere and people literally give them away." So Dan got on Craigslist and found a listing for two Great Pyrenees who needed a new home. The family could no longer care for all the animals they had and, since these are guardian working dogs, they need things to do. Carrie contacted the family, texted with them a bit, and then went with Sarah to get them! There you have it! The story of how we got our dogs. It's fun how this journey started and ended with Tennessee. And it works out well for us, because both Sarah and Carrie have friends down there who they can visit.
