Featured Product: Forged Signatures

It may be fair to say that this is the product that started it all. Mark made two for some friends of ours as an experiment. He had an idea and wanted to try it so he did and when people saw it, everyone said how that would be something people would buy. It's also the product that required the most work to get the process set up, which is why it was one of the last products we put on the site when we launched.

Since these are made using words that people have written, the first step is to enlarge the signature and transfer it onto a working surface. This is done by projecting a picture of the word onto a piece of slate and copying the word in chalk. As the word is being forged, it is constantly being compared to the chalk template to see what needs to be adjusted.

Once the word is forged and cleaned (to remove the byproducts of forging), it is mounted to a wooden plaque. The edges of the plaque are charred with a torch to give it a rustic look. Then the whole thing is oiled and the word is attached.

We offer completely custom Forged Signatures but we also offer general ones with common words like "home" and "welcome", still in a handwritten font. Something for everyone!
