This product came into existence because of an odd vent in our house. We had a long, skinny vent in the floor in our hallway and getting something that would fit it would have had to be custom anyway so Dan asked Joe if he could weld one. Joe did and it looked (looks :) really cool. Carrie's dad kept telling us that we should sell them. When it was time to decide what products to start with, these seemed like an obvious choice. Our welded floor registers are made with 1"x1" steel angle and expanded steel.
The first thing that we do is to cut the angle to length and weld it together to make the frame of the register. Joe created a special jig to hold the pieces in place as he welds everything. The expanded steel is cut to size in bulk and sandblasted to remove any rust that may have formed in storage. After the expanded steel cover is welded to the frame, we grind the whole piece to make it shine and spray paint it with a clear coat to prevent rust. These are some of our most popular products! We make them in bulk for the standard size that is found in most houses but we can make custom sizes for the weird sizes that are often in older houses.
